26/11/2004 Bloody ell, hangover's getting worse by the minute! And the weekend hasn't even started yet! Once again it's come round pretty damn fast- what happens to these weeks? Where do they go? Anyway. Yo yo, check this! Breakin Bread, the all-knowing, all-doing club stroke record label super-unit drop us their new release 'The Get out EP' by long-time Nottingham veterans Cappo and producer Zero Theory. Five vocal tracks, three instrumentals and damn, they're all heavy. So- which one to put up? Hmmm, tricky, but for me 'From Acorns' wins it- makes me wanna smash something up, even with a hangover. Those strings man... damn. The office is getting pissed off cos I keep on reloading it. Each tune's got a slightly different mood to it, from introverted to straight aggressive- all of the beats are dope for real, with some mad breaks going on and drums like they're supposed to be. And Cappo is hella dope too as you know, no average style happening here, visual and clever lyrics, and the delivery that only comes from years and years of droppin verses. Dope EP, all round. And speaking of Breakin Bread, if you're in London on Saturday night, make sure to hit the club night at the Rhythm Factory on Whitechapel Road. In fact, fuck that, they have people flying in from Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, all over Europe on a monthly basis so you've got no excuse! World class breaking, open mic hosted by the legendary drunken master Kope, live performance by Cappo and Lee Ramsay and the iller tunes spun all night. And the vibe is real nice too y'all... And new to the site we've got the current Issue of HHC, full of all that International Hip Hop ish and of course your monthly instalment of ya Hip Hop Honeys (Shayla's got her nips out. Noyce.) Damn, these are gonna go quick, I can see it now, crazy gems for all you suspects. Do they need any introduction? I don't think so, but hell, I'll do it anyway cos I'm in that kind of mood. So, first up we've got the ORIGINAL 'How's Life in London?' by the almighty London Posse, with 'Shut the Fuck Up' and 'How I make Papes.' No instrumentals, but yo, they're fuggin original, so who cares? Ain't gonna find these anywhere else too fast. Produced by Dobie and DJ Biznizz by the way. Also from Mr.Rodney P and Bionic we've got 'Jump around' with dirty, clean and instrumental versions with a remix of 'Gangster Chronicle' on the flipside. Only one of these, so you better be quick. Actually, forget that, one of our cats out in Japan got there before I could even put the news up! That's quick man, damn. Oh well, we did have that one... 19/11/2004 What!? Weekend AGAIN!? Damn man, time goes kinda quick nowadays. But before I go and get all messy, I thought I'd let you know about three new sets of vinyl records we've cooked up for you to ponder over until the joys of the working week kick back in. So: here goes... First up is an EXREMELY limited 7" from the infamous Rawdog band (you know, Louis Slipperz, Task Force...) on a mellowed-out semi-instrumental tip. The one I've loaded up for y'all is 'Lemonade', featuring the dulcet tones of a very sweet sounding lady whose name I don't even know... could be compared to Portishead but with a more electronic feel- very nice indeed. The a-side 'You Said You Were Different' is a more uptempo joint, still with the characteristic Rawdog sound and with an anonymous fella providing the vocals. And the end is hella fresh, gotta check it. If you're feeling the Rawdog vibe, make sure to get your hands on this one. And as I said, very effin limited... Another 7" is Breaking Bread's new signing Natural Self (otherwise known as Keno 1) dropping two very heavy instrumental tunes, 'The Sound' and 'Foundation'. Once again I've given you the b-side 'Foundation' (what is it with me and b-sides?) cos I think it's fuggin bad. Heavy drums, dope horns... yeh man. The a-side, surprisingly enough, is more on a dance vibe with some crazy clap rhythm goin on... and check for the other Keno 1 shit as well cos the guy is good, for real... Finally, before I bounce, we've got Zebra Traffic's new collective Dirty Diggers dropping us their first EP 'Diggers Don't Get Days Off.' Word up. Four vocal tracks and two instrumentals, dope production throughout, and all produced and rapped by Young Max and Pat Stash. A very strong first release for sure, and I'm especially feeling the first track 'For the Haters.' So, once again, plenty of newness for yous lot... and I'm offski. Audi. Without a trace...

18/11/2004 Aaight den! Bit more time today at last, so i've been mostly sitting around scratching my lazy ass. I wish. So! Some newness, some oldness, all goodness. If you got yourself a copy of the 27 Beats 7" 'Death Jam' you will have noticed a young man called Rup, or Rup the Cunt to his friends. (And if not, WHY not!? It's got hand-drawn labels for fuxache!) So anyway, he's just dropped his first 12", 'King Cnut'/'Angels and Devils'/'Brace Yourself' on Hear Today records. First thing you'll notice is that the cover is ILLER. I mean, Secondson's is dope from an artistic point of view but this one is just ILL. From all points of view. Dude must have kept this school photo of him flipping off the photographer cherished under his pillow forever. Cover of the year? Maybe so. But yo, you're not buying for the cover right? Right. So you'll be happy to hear that the content's dope as well. 'King Cnut' is my favourite here, heavy stomping beat courtesy of Evil Sun with Rup's characteristic humourous rhyme-drenched lyrics. But yo, the other two are dope as well, both produced by Steve Clear... A melancholic 'Angels and Devils' with some very nice strings and the more upbeat 'Brace Yourself'... And daps doin some really dope cuts too, like, really. Especially on 'King Cnut'. Fuggin word up... And you're gonna have to be damn quick, cos we've only got 7 of Lewis Parker and Lost Souljah's 'Mr.Parker's Siesta'/'Blood'. In fact, by the time you read this there'll probably be even fewer, or even NONE! Imagine that. The sleeves are a little battered, but yo, we ain't buying for the cover right? Damn right. And rumour has it that i'm only in this country for another month...

17/11/2004 It's ok i'm back again... you lot have been keeping me so damn busy (well, you and some other people) that i haven't had a moment to put up anything else since last week! But thanks for your patience, it will be richly rewarded... First up today we have the second 12" from Optimas Prime, 'Slang Shotgun' b/w 'Prince of Persia' featuring Junior Disprol of Dead Residents and Blaktrix respectively. I've given you the b-side to feast your hungry ears on here, a dedication to the strong ladies out there, you know who you are, over some really nice broken down desert beat... The a-side is on some proper britcore flex, dirty grimey beats and shotgun slang lyrics fo yo ass, battle scratches and all. Speaking of which, you even get scratch samples at the end of each side as well as the usual vocal/instrumental tracks... Another second release is Lowkey's 'Key to the Game Vol.2' CD, 25 tracks of some of the finest wordsmithery on the London underground at the moment. This cat really is to be watched out for, and he's only just starting so yo, be very scared. Conscious, intelligent, on point, nice delivery... and with a whole bunch of features to keep you on your toes. Noyce... Bias ALSO drops us his second vinyl release, (damn! crazy shit!) a beautiful chilled-out 12" entitled 'Sit Back See the World' with 'Raining Jewels' on the flipside, featuring the angelic voice of Christina Charley... oh yeah. This might be more one for the summertime but yo, fuck it, it's really damn nice anyway. If the darkness is getting you down, (ha ha!) then make sure to cop this one to heal the winter pains... And YO! The last EVER Dark Circle 'Civilians' CD was sold today since the regrettable liquidation of Jazz Fudge Records, so make sure to get your vinyl copy cos we've only got a few of those left too... and a big REST IN PEACE to ODB who, as I'm sure you all know, took his last few breaths recently... at least it was in a studio. Live by the mic, die by the mic. He will be missed by all...

12/11/2004 And? What did I say? Call me Nostradamus man, orders coming out of my ears today, picture that. You guys keeping me busy! So, yeh, even more newness today... Welsh producer Secondson presents his first full-length album, aptly entitled 'Secondson & his Orchestra,' featuring a whole string of well-established acts (Jehst, Taskforce, Lewis Parker) and lesser known but equally good rappers (Clarity, Conrad Watts, Blaktrix...) 12 tracks deep, this is the perfect album to sit back and smoke a nice cigarette (or whatever else you've got lying around the house) to. Sometimes moody, sometimes bouncing, always damn well produced, and yo- heavy heavy. It features all the a-sides from the previously released singles, and the artwork is killer man, love that shit. (Secondson also does all his own photography.) Actually, the whole thing's really nicely presented, with full-colour gloss sleeves with slick photos of all of the featured artists, and the first 2500 copies even have an embossed sleeve! My gosh. And as if that's not enough, the whole thing's going for just a tenner! Hot DAMN! That's some value for double vinyl, and you're only gonna get it that cheap here cos Secondson wanted it like that. Good, huh? Word. Take it easy, Weekend calling...

09/11/2004 Joker Starr releases his second 12", on white label this time, with two tracks that are refreshingly different, both from each other and generally too. The a-side 'Get Up' flows over a nice super-minimal beat, produced by the man himself, and features some very animated punchline-driven lyrics. Dope flow, passionate delivery... the b-side 'Attack of the Clones' (produced by himself as well) is both funky and mad chilled out at the same time, must be around 80 bpm or so, and as the name suggests launches an attack on the army of same-sounding rappers he sees out there. Man doesn't just walk the walk... 'I don't copy cats my raps stay original...' Second up we have Lincoln's self-appointed finest, Swampfoot, with the 'Education EP.' Recognise the hook? Word! A very nice re-working of the Pink Floyd classic, produced by The Weaver and Tommy T with cuts by Dj Dimes, live guitar licks by Sean South and even some beatboxing by Dr. Badfunk at the end. Longusto provides the rapping throughout the EP, which is on an equally live party vibe as the title tune. James Mann is on the guitar for the other two tunes, and altogether it's a very nice-sounding first release from the Swampfoot crew. And finally the Wolftown massive drop us their 'This is New York' mix CD, blended and hosted by Late and featuring not only himself and Conman reppin the UK but also a whole host of ill lyricists from the darkest depths of New York's underground. Dope beats from beggining to end... check the shit out y'all! Noyce...

08/11/2004 Hittin the new week runnin y'all! Two new 12"s and a DVD... After a long long break from releasing any material we see the welcome return of Birmingham crew Moorish Delta 7, who very kindly dropped us their new single 'The Rain' b/w 'From the Grain' this afternoon, produced by Cipher Jewels and The Baptist aka Charlie Parker respectively. I had real trouble deciding which one of the two to put up for your listening pleasure cos they're both dope, but eventually decided on the b-side which features the Wu Tang's Shyheim. You can also find Yogi joining in on the a-side, a slightly more up-tempo and generally more a-side like track, but yo, equally heavy. Good to see those cats back on the scene. And you will probably also have noticed by now that we've got Ty's new 12" 'Look 4 Me' b/w 'Sophisticated & Coarse' in stock, which sees the man pushing his style further in the direction he seems to have mastered- catchy hooks, tight intelligent lyrics, good vibes. Both tunes feature Eska on the chorus, and the a-side sees Breis dropping a verse to boot... and fresh artwork as well. And for those of you who are buggin cos your video player's dead/battered/been sold, don't worry, the guys at Dark & Cold have released 'UK Hip Hop Untapped vol.2' on DVD so you can flick merrily back and forth between the scenes, and they've even thrown in Skeme's video 'Turning' as well. So, plenty newness for ya, don't say we don't treat you well! And for those waiting for the Tommy Evans album on vinyl, you might have to be paitient for a little longer, there's all sorts of mayhem at the pressing plant apparently... Skinny's Birthday? Aiiight then! Laters...

05/11/2004 Hot damn! More newness for your hungry turntables my friends, all vinyl this time. Infinite Potential is the first one of the two, with their EP 'As the Record Revolves' on Catskills Records. Half instrumental, half vocal, this is a nice one to let run while you're busy doin whatever it is you're doin. Very nicely produced by Kojak and The Soulful Spider, with cuts throughout, and dope lyrics by Amber MC... proper quality people. Check the track 'Quiet Nights' that uses the same sample as Foreign Beggars on 'Where Did the Sun Go?'... noyce. And it's even got some scratch cuts for all you DJs. Next up we've got Dead Residents with the 'Poltergeist Frequency EP' on Sin Nombre Records. This is some darkness y'all, perfect for the looming winter months. Sounds like knives sharpening or something. Actually, one of the tunes is called 'Dry Knives', kinda sums it up... and that's one dope cover as well! Produced and rapped by Junior Disprol and Chud Jackson, with extra production from Sir Dufus Styles and Monkey... broken down, moody, feelin it. Weekend o'clock people, seeyas then... audi.

04/11/2004 So... another four years. Anyone surprised? Didn't think so... Anyway, back to the matter at hand! To cheer us all up we got some hot new shizzeeit for all y'all, as usual. First up, following his immensely popular debut CD 'This is My Promo Vol.1', Sway a.k.a. Sway Dasafo drops us his first 12" on Dcypha Productions, 'Flo' Fashion' b/w 'Up Your Speed' ft.Pyrelli. If you don't know already, you better find out. Is it hip hop? I don't know, or even care, shit's off the hook for real. This guy really knows how to use his words and deliver them, trust me. 'Flo' Fashion, as you could guess, is a tune about flexing the bling on the low budget, backed by a damn catchy, dirty bass-lined driven club rhythm. The b-side, a shout to all the mans across the country, is grimey as all hell people... This is one cat to watch for. Next we have the first ever release from Souljah Clique from Bristol, hitting us with a 19 track CD only album. A solid debut for sure, with some very nice beats courtesy of TRZ and Kelz dropping the vocals, all very tightly rapped indeed. Sometimes moody (Verbal Vomit), mostly jazzy (Easton Delights) and even on the rock tip (Rackham 'Tooled Up' Remix of 'Souljah Clique'), this is an all-round dope debut album. And we also have issue 18 of Undercover Magazine, still burning strong, packed as ever with 98 pages of goodness. Check the magazine section for that one. And all you cats out in Australia and New Zealand, make sure not to miss Disorda, Mystro and Braintax on their one month tour, coming to a town near you very soon... Peace!

14/10/2004 It's here at last, slightly delayed by two years, but it's here now! Rodney P's debut solo LP 'The Future' has been totally revamped from it's original track listing with some new joints and new artwork to boot. The 15 track CD, 14 track LP features guests Mystro, MC D, Karizma, Honey Williams & Olivia Chaney, and the production duties on this gem of an album come from the likes of Skitz, Joe Buhdha, The Sea, Dobie, Stone & Pepper. You know Rodney ain't messing here and you have the usual style and fashion on tracks such as the opening dancefloor bubbler 'The Nice Up', to the rowdy 'We Don't Like Coppers', whilst elsewhere the tempo slows down and you'll hear a different side to Rodney on tracks like 'I Believe'. There's also the recently released single 'Trouble' featured, along with previously released 'Riddim Killa' on the CD version only. So along with sample clearance problems, people not doing what they said they were doing, and general fuckeries, it's now time for Rodney P to take full stage and let the world know it's now time for 'The Future', trust us you won't be disappointed... We also have some rather slick looking Rodney P t-shirts now in stock located in the merchandise section of the catalogue...

A well rounded, 17 track CD only album with two bonus tracks thrown in to boot, (one remix and a version of 'Witness the Fitness', strangely not entitled 'Witness the Fatness'...) This ranges from the uptempo heights of 'Members Only' with Rola through to some very dark joints such as 'Taste the Blood of Fat Club', or the introspective contemplations of 'Open Ears & Broken Tears'. All produced, rapped and very nicely scratched by the men Monk and Turroe themselves, this is one to watch out for for sure.

I must have glanced at my watch quite a few times, but still he wasn't there. F this i thought after what seemed like an age of waiting, and turned to leave. And there he was. Where have you been I asked him. He didn't reply- he handed me a brown box of records and left without a word. I got home and checked it out: aRRO it said. About Time ep. I put it on the player and listened. Heavy ish. Three tracks with instrumentals on it, each one sounding different to the one before. One of them told of knights and swordsmen- something I'd definately never heard before. The press release said that he was once part of the notorious Minature Heroes crew from Leeds, and I was sure that was Digga I heard on the third track.
